АБИИ выделит 250 млн долларов на содействие экологическому переходу Узбекистана.

The ADB will allocate $250 million to support Uzbekistan's green transition.

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) has approved a funding of $250 million to support Uzbekistan's accelerated transition towards a green, inclusive, and sustainable economy.

This project will focus on three interconnected areas aimed at ensuring sustainable development.

Firstly, it will enhance climate-related governance structures by strengthening institutional capacity and management.

Secondly, it will concentrate on improving the management of water and land resources while promoting economic resilience.

Thirdly, the project will accelerate the transition to low-carbon solutions in key sectors such as energy and transportation, with a primary focus on increasing energy efficiency and implementing sustainable practices.

Moreover, this project will pay special attention to the adoption of sustainable development and climate risk disclosure practices for state-owned enterprises, as well as expanding renewable energy initiatives that benefit women and vulnerable communities.

“The collaboration between ADBI, ADB, and the government of Uzbekistan underscores our collective commitment to sustainable development in Central Asia,” said Konstantin Limitovsky, ADBI Vice President for Investment Operations in Region 2 and Project and Corporate Financing. “By considering climate priorities in economic planning, enhancing adaptation measures, and promoting decarbonization in critical sectors such as energy and transportation, this project plays a key role in supporting Uzbekistan's efforts to implement its national 2030 strategy and fulfill its nationally determined contributions under the Paris Agreement.”

“Climate change poses long-term multidimensional and multi-structural challenges to the sustainability of Uzbekistan's economic progress,” said Kanokpan Lao-Ariya, ADB Country Director in Uzbekistan. “ADB is working closely with ADBI on this project to support a comprehensive approach to achieving sustainable, inclusive, and low-carbon economic growth in the country. It also contributes to creating an enabling environment and institutional framework for climate action, strengthening climate adaptation priorities, and accelerating climate mitigation efforts.”

The program will be implemented under the guidance of the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan with support from representatives of key government agencies. ADBI and ADB will oversee the project’s implementation to ensure its effective execution and alignment with broader development goals.
