The American Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has released the initial shortlists of contenders for the prestigious Oscar awards. Currently, information on 10 out of 23 nominations is available on the official academy website.
Among the nominees for Best International Feature Film, 15 films are represented. Noteworthy in this list is the French film "Emilia Perez," starring Selena Gomez, as well as the Danish film "The Girl with the Needle," directed by Magnus von Horn. Other contenders include the Czech films "Waves" by Jiri Madl and "Touch" by Icelandic director Baltasar Kormakur. Works from the UK, Germany, Italy, Canada, Latvia, Norway, Palestine, and Thailand have also received recognition.
In the category of "Best Original Score," films such as "The Contenders," "Wild Robot," "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice," and "Inside Out 2" have made the list.
The award for Best Documentary Feature could go to one of the following films: "Black Box Diaries," "Dahomey," "Frida," "Hollywoodgate," and "Porcelain War."
Additionally, other nominated works are featured in categories such as "Best Short Documentary," "Best Makeup and Hairstyling," "Best Song," "Best Animated Short Film," "Best Live Action Short Film," "Best Sound," and "Best Visual Effects."
However, the greatest anticipation among film enthusiasts is linked to the upcoming lists of nominees for the best lead and supporting roles, which remain a secret for now. This year, Russian actor Yura Borisov may enter the race for the coveted statuette, with predictions of a nomination in the "Best Supporting Actor" category.
The 97th Academy Awards ceremony will take place on March 2, 2025, with comedian Conan O’Brien as the host.
