On the last Saturday of this year, researchers reported alarming news regarding the issue of space debris orbiting Earth.
Scientists are expressing significant concerns that an excess of this debris could lead to catastrophic consequences. Vishnu Reddy, a professor at the University of Arizona, warned in an interview with CNN about the potential realization of the "Kessler syndrome" scenario. This scenario suggests that collisions between fragments of space debris could trigger a cascading reaction, resulting in smaller particles damaging and destroying other space objects.
Reddy emphasized that there has been a sharp increase in the number of objects launched into space over the past four years. He also noted that the cascading effect from collisions of debris particles could continue until orbital satellites become non-functional, presenting a serious threat and potentially leading to disaster.
