Human rights books have been delivered to the Zangiota women's colony.

Uzbekistan, Tashkent – According to AN Podrobno.uz, human rights activists have delivered books and informational materials on human rights, as well as personal hygiene products, to Women's Correctional Facility No. 21 located in the Zangiata district of Tashkent region, reports a correspondent from Podrobno.uz.

The event was organized by the National Center for Human Rights, the OSCE Project Coordinator in Uzbekistan, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs' Department of Punishment Enforcement.

Its aim was to provide incarcerated women with access to educational and legal literature, as well as to improve sanitary and hygienic conditions of their detention.

More than 600 books and issues of the magazine "Democratization and Human Rights" were donated to support the education and cultural development of incarcerated women. Special attention was given to sanitary conditions and access to personal hygiene products.

The OSCE Project Coordinator in Uzbekistan, Ambassador Antti Karttunen, noted that the initiative supports the project "Promoting the National Mechanism for Gender Equality" and implements the recommendations of the UN Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination Against Women.

Representatives of the National Center for Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan emphasized that such activities contribute to the humanization of detention conditions and provide incarcerated individuals with a chance to reintegrate into society.
