Today, on October 23, the fifty-ninth plenary session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan commenced in Tashkent.

Members of the Senate, government officials, representatives from ministries and agencies, members of the Youth Parliament under the Senate, and media representatives are participating in this session.

The plenary session is chaired by the Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis, Tanzila Narbaeva. You can follow the discussion of the issues live via the Senate’s channel on YouTube.

In recent years, telecommunication networks have rapidly developed under the influence of technological advancements and changing consumer demands. In this regard, our country is implementing comprehensive measures for the widespread introduction of modern information and communication technologies in all sectors.

In particular, the development of telecommunication systems in remote areas has created access to telecommunication networks and achieved positive results in reducing the cost of Internet services.

To enhance work in this direction, the next plenary session of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis discussed the Law "On Telecommunications".

The experience and practices of foreign countries with developed telecommunication markets were thoroughly analyzed. The law clearly defines the tasks of the regulator overseeing the telecommunications market and the government bodies implementing the development policy for this market.

Thus, the law grants the regulatory authority the power to conduct licensing and permit procedures for activities in the telecommunications sector, prioritize the use of telecommunication infrastructures, and restore and develop their operations during natural and man-made emergencies or states of emergency, as well as ensure equal and fair competition for operators and providers.

All legal entities and individuals are also required to comply with the regulations established by the regulatory authority within its jurisdiction.

The adoption of this law, which provides relief to business entities, will create a solid foundation for the sustainable development of the telecommunications sector, which is an important part of the government's strategic program for the digitalization of the economy and society.

The law has been approved by the senators.
